Shu Tomioka, The Photographer -

Shu tomioka - London Snap Shot!

Christmas Workshop (Candle Arrangement) -

This is Yukako’s design. Different types of evergreen were carefully layered and grouped so that the finished design would show its natural beauty. It is worth noting its beautiful profile.

This is Emi’s design. A lovely warm colour scheme on a neatly created foliage base! Also, each decorative item was given maximum exposure to viewers by Emi.

Chiaki has created this design. With very selected decorative items almost exclusively natural -, this is for grown-ups. The use of foliage really shine through this beautiful arrangement.

Christmas Workshop (Christmas Door Wreath) -

Here are some designs created at Christmas Special Workshops from last year.

Yukako has created this design. As if it was a flower clock, each segment of design has its own story. You just cannot help following each part of design one by one.

Ayako made this design. A rich combination of natural material was used here. It is a warm, quiet colour scheme – gorgeous!

This is Yoko’s design. Its neat workmanship is well translated into this rich look.

Noriko has created this design. Choice of Cherry Pink as an accent colour does work rather well here – it brought real character to this design!

This design was created by Megumi. Bright orange and eye-catching ribbon really make this natural design stand out in dull winter weather.

We are planning to have some Christmas Workshops again this year from the end of November - just in time for the Advent. The detail will be found here on later date.

Autumn Term starts on 27th September - 9

Once a new page of calenders was turned, the air in London has changed: The scent of Autumn is very distinctive to me. Naturally, the street trees are changing their appearances. Nights are getting longer, so trees are preparing for the new season.
This new season has brought some new faces to the flower market - Miscanthus, Physalis... they always remind me of that glorious Autumn dusk in my home town in Japan.

Anyway, at LivingSeasons, a new term is about to start, and this will be the last term for 2012. Christmas and the New Year seems long time away, but, in fact, they are not. But, we still have enough time to prepare for those special days. It would be wonderful if those days are decorated with your own flowers?
The weekly classes is starting from 27th September 2012. Time and premises are the same as usual.

Landscape Arrangement
The idea is to re-create a certain scene/landscape as a flower arrangement - it does not have to be complicated, just think about your favourite places. Yes, and, of course,  we will think about Visual Balance. This is Natascha's design.

Parallel (Vertical) Design

Let's show off the beauty of stems growing up to the sky, flowers opening up to the light in this arrangement. How to create and keep Negative Space in a design would be also an important design element to apply here.
This is designed by Keiko.
Flat-style Hand-Tied
Imagine when you assemble jigsaw puzzles - buy here, each piece is not only flowers, but also each foliage and some decorative items. Let's create a good visual balance and subtle recession on this design.
This is Keiko's design.

Parallel (Horizontal)
This is another side of Parallel designs - all the visible material used in the design will be placed in horizontal manner. It is a simple design, but it DOES look attractive and people would ask you about it on your dinner table.
Miki has created this design.

Spiral Design
All we need to do is to find some beautiful line - arching, stream lines, spiralling...etc. within each flower/foliage material.Let's stimulate your artistic side!
This is Hiromi's design.

During this new term, there will be several opportunities to "find out" more about shapes and line flowers/nature have. Also, we'll have to employ a good use of "Negative Space", which enriches your design skill dramatically.

On Basic Class, the agenda is Round, Front Facing, Hand-Tied, Vase arrangement and Crescent design. Let's create some beautiful designs with your own flowers.

If you are interested in Flowers/creating your own Flower Arrangements, please come along to the class to see what is going on.It really does not matter if you do not have any experience at all!

Roses in gardens are almost finishing, but there are more to Summer flowers! Seasonal flowers are always more reasonable and last longer. With those wonderful seasonal flowers, you can make your room HOME.

Looking forward to seeing you in the class!

The Summer term starts on 12th July 2012!

With low heavy clouds, it does not look like SUMMER at all in London... How have you been? Wimbledon is over, Hampton Court Flower show has gone now, and now we are waiting for the Olympic/Paralympic to arrive.

Anyway, at LivingSeasons, the weekly classes is starting from 12th Jule 2012. Time and premises are the same as always.

        Vegetative Round Arrangement

When you feel like making a natural-looking design, this is very useful. You are going to use grouping technique here. This is Michiko's design.

        Vegetative Up-Right design

With the same principle as above, but apply it to an Up-Right shape here. Maybe you can see a bit of JAPANESE influence here...?

This is Kanako's design.

        Front-Facing Hand-Tied

Hand-Tied design has several styles, indeed. This time, we are making Front-Facing one, which would be suitable for stage and presentation.

This is Megumi's design.

        Vase arrangement in Front-Facing style

Vase Arrangements has also several styles. This one would be quite useful for your own house/room.

        Corsages

On the previous term, we made Modern Corsages, which you can see its mechanics. In this term, we are taking rather traditional way of making Corsages.

On this Summer Term, the agendas are here to push your general skills up. It would widen your design skill, too. They might look simple and basic, but they are useful, indeed.

On Basic Class, the menu is Round, Front Facing, Hand-Tied, Vase arrangement and Crescent design.

Vase Arrangement with Frame -

This is Michiko’s design. Those beautiful Peonies stood up really well in this intriguing minimal design, with a Fatsia leaf at its base to give good visual weight. It was a well-structured design.

Yuri created this design. This hand-made frame has rather cool colour scheme with airy feel to it: a beautiful contrast to Daffodils - a sign of Spring. With an Fatsia leaf behind the frame is enhancing not only its visual balance, but also the colour of shining yellow from Daffodils.

This is Keiko’s design. Each material has bursting energy, growing towards the Sun! Doesn’t it make you feel happy?

This arrangement is designed by Kanako, who chose Tulips and Hyacinthus - very seasonal flowers. The arrangement has a good composition and movement - they just look like they are trying to reach the Spring Sun!

Line and Limited HT

This is Michiko’s hand-tied. Although it only had 3 types of flowers (even fewer than 3 stems each!)the design has created a good visual impact. Michiko achieved such a fine balance here.

This hand-tied was designed by Megumi. Alliums and Larkspurs were comfortably sitting among those elegant leaves, showing their beauty. Flowers were arranged in different heights and leaving some space between them, so that the design had pleasing flow and space.

This is designed by Kanako. Arching stems and unpredictable movements are some of beauty Spring flowers can offer! Kanako has chosen those can-be-rather-difficult-to-manage flowers to show how fun they are, and it was executed well, too.

This is Yuri's design. You can see each individual flower really well in this hand-tied - a beautiful harmony! Soft movements added by those Jasmine trailings brought a sense of space beyond the arrangement.

Yuri also created tis design. Sunflowers are one of difficult flowers to deal with especially when yo uare making hand-tieds, but Yuri has managed to secure a good balance here. It is pleasing to your eyes with its good visual balance - so Summery, too!

Front Facing Hand-Tied -

When you order a Hand-Tied bouquet in a flower shop, they will create a lovely bunch of flowers in a posy style in most cases. There is nothing wrong in this style, however, it is hard to show the beauty of lines and movement in this style... Hence, we are making Front Facing Hand-Tied here in Advanced Class.

The top right photo is from Kuniko's first creation. You can see the beauty of movement and line in this bouquet. Once, I have read a book explaining that flowers in a room make the room feels 3 degree warmer, and your heart feels 3 degree warmer, too. The picture is just like the room I read before.

The next one is also from Kuniko, but this is her second creation. She enhances the movement in this bouquet by adding some autumnal Rose hips. Beautiful.

This photo is from Yukiko. Curcuma and Gladiolus are so graphical and controlled well, yet the bouquet looks so light, even though it is really heavy! The bouquet's colour scheme delivers summer breeze to you.

This Hand-tied is made by Sanae. You can see how patiently and carefully she assembled all those many stems into a bouquet: there is no single criss-cross. The result is the beautiful spiral mechanics, with a dramatic composition!

Spiral Arrangements - ”

This design was created by Hiromi. Its delicate and fragile look is so pleasing, yet, there is certain bold statement, which keeps visual interest. Dark colour Zantedeschias have added striking impact to this arrangement.

This is Kanako’s creation. Those yellow Gerberas are shining through the Willow cage, and Vibernums are blooming like floating bubbles. It is not just a ‘pretty’ design, but it shows you the strength flowers have artistically.

Table Arrangement -

This table arrangement is created by Natascha. It is finely outlined, with beautiful recession in it. Natascha has combined different sizes and texture of beautiful Summer flowers, hence it has pleasing quality to your eyes. A visual feast with Summer scent!

This is Kanako’ s table piece. Although Kanako has employed line and grouping method here, the final design did not become old-fashioned. What an elegant table design!

This is Keiko’s table arrangement. There were Tulips, Freesias and Hyacinthus in this design; a deliciously scented table piece! As you would think, Keiko used fewer Hyacinthus to make its scent less overpowering.

There is a field near where I live - I sometime walk thorough to go to work. Yesterday, there was this strange pattern on the grass....What is it?

The Spring term start from 19th April!

Warm sunny days have been staying in London for a few days now. Of course, that is making some changes on the ground and branches - new shoots and buds and flowers! Cherry blossoms and Magnolias are blooming and shining : even though Cherry Blossoms in Japan is a well known sight, yet, you might be disappointed if you only stay inside urban area in Japan - you might as well enjoy more blossoms here in London. Those stunning visions of Cherry Blossoms in Japan are taking place outside residential area...
Anyway, at LivingSeasons, the weekly classes is starting from 19th April. Time and premises are the same as always.
In Advance class, we are introducing a new agenda...

1) L-Shape Design (Asymmetrical) - We are learning this elegant, yet dynamic style.

This is Megumi's design.

2) Fan-shape Arrangement - very airy and light, yet, look at its visual impact!

This is Saiko's design.

3) Cross Over-Lapping Design - This design has good tension provided by movement and space.

This is Keiko's design.

4) Modern Corsage - Do you think making a corsage is rather tedious? Maybe you can try this!

This is Keiko's design.

5) Modern Table Arrangement - This is a new agenda from this term. Let's escape from traditional rules, and be adventurous!

As you can see here, those designs tend to have more visual impact, yet using not that many material. Let's see what each material can do in the design, and extend that potential to the maximum!

On Basic Class, the menu is Round, Front Facing, Hand-Tied, Vase arrangement and Crescent design. Let's create some beautiful designs with your own flowers.

Now, you can buy some foliage at Hampstead class for £3. This is entirely an optional. I really would like to provide foliage with Bloomsbury class, too, however, at the moment, it is not possible due to its storage restriction. If you are interested in joining the class, but not sure what you do in the class, why don't you come and see the class one of those warm days? We are not going to bite you, so don't worry! Come along, and say hello to us.
It still is chilly in the morning and evening, but there are many signs of new season arriving. Maybe you would like to feel it by having some fresh flowers in your room?
So, shall I see you in the class?
